General & Safety

Is it safe to travel abroad for eye surgery?

Yes, when the surgical centre follows recognised clinical standards and plans your recovery time carefully. We share our accreditation details and surgeon credentials during your consultation so you can make an informed decision before booking travel.

How do I know which treatment I actually need?

Send us recent eye reports or photos, if you have them, and a surgeon reviews your case on a free video call. If you have no recent reports, we can still give general guidance and confirm the diagnosis once you arrive for in-person testing.

What if I decide, after arriving, that I don't want surgery?

Surgery is never assumed. The in-person diagnostic visit is separate from the decision to proceed, and you're free to take the results elsewhere for a second opinion.

Can a family member accompany me?

Yes, and it's common β€” most patients bring a companion, particularly for the surgery day itself. Let us know in advance so accommodation and transfers are planned for two.

Cataract Surgery

Is cataract surgery painful?

No. Numbing eye drops are used instead of injections for most cases, so patients typically feel light pressure rather than pain during the 15–20 minute procedure.

How long does the surgery itself take?

The procedure itself usually takes 15 to 20 minutes per eye, though you should plan for a few hours at the surgical centre for preparation and initial post-op checks.

Can both eyes be treated on the same trip?

Yes. Many international patients have both eyes treated a few days apart during a single visit, which your surgeon plans around your individual healing.

Will I still need glasses after surgery?

It depends on the lens you choose. Standard monofocal lenses usually still need reading glasses, while premium multifocal or EDOF lenses can reduce or remove that dependence β€” this is covered in detail during your consultation.

What's the difference between phaco and laser-assisted surgery?

Phacoemulsification uses an ultrasonic probe to remove the cataract through a small incision and is the standard modern technique. Femtosecond laser-assisted surgery uses a laser for part of that process with computer-guided precision, and can help in more complex cases.

Retina & Myopia

Can I get a retina check-up alongside my cataract visit?

Yes. Let us know when booking so we can schedule a combined assessment β€” many patients review both in the same trip.

Is LASIK suitable for high myopia?

It depends on your corneal thickness and prescription, which is assessed during your diagnostic visit. For some high-myopia cases, a lens-based procedure may be recommended instead of LASIK.

How is diabetic retinopathy treated?

Treatment depends on severity and can range from monitoring and blood-sugar management, to laser therapy or injections, to surgery in advanced cases. Your retina specialist will explain your specific stage and options.

Cost & Payment

How is pricing communicated to overseas patients?

You'll receive a written, itemised estimate after your video consultation, covering surgery, lens, and scheduled follow-ups, so you can plan travel with a clear budget.

Does the package include accommodation?

Accommodation is arranged through partner guesthouses near the hospital but is typically billed separately from the surgical package, so you can choose a option that fits your budget.

What payment methods are accepted?

Card, bank transfer and major digital payment methods are accepted. Specifics are confirmed with your patient coordinator ahead of your visit.

Can I claim reimbursement from my insurance back home?

We provide itemised invoices and medical reports formatted for reimbursement claims, though whether your policy covers treatment abroad depends on your individual insurer.

Travel & Visa

Do I need a medical visa?

Requirements vary by country. Once your treatment plan is confirmed, we issue a medical invitation letter that supports your visa application, and our team can advise on the general process.

How many days should I plan to stay?

Most cataract patients plan for five to seven days, covering diagnostics, surgery, and at least one follow-up exam before flying home. Retina and refractive cases can vary β€” your coordinator will confirm an estimate for your specific treatment.

Is airport pickup included?

Yes, transfers on arrival are arranged as part of our international patient services once your travel dates are confirmed.

What languages can I get support in?

Consultations and consent discussions are available in English, Arabic, French and Russian, with interpreter support on request for other languages.

Recovery & Follow-up

How soon can I fly home after cataract surgery?

Most patients are cleared to fly a few days after surgery, once a follow-up exam confirms healing is on track β€” your surgeon will give you a specific date based on how your eye responds.

What should I avoid during recovery?

Typical guidance includes avoiding swimming, heavy lifting and eye rubbing for a set period, and using prescribed drops on schedule. You'll receive written aftercare instructions in your language before you leave.

What happens if I have concerns after I'm back home?

Your care team remains reachable by video call and messaging, and we're glad to correspond with a local eye doctor near you if further in-person care is needed.

Will someone follow up with me, or do I have to reach out first?

We schedule your virtual follow-up before you leave, so it's already on the calendar β€” but you're welcome to reach out any time in between if something feels off.
